Air-operations - U.S. Navy air-operations as part of Coalition Airpower

CVW 7 that consists of VFA 143 (F/A-18E), VFA 103 (F/A-18F), VFA 83, VFA 131 (F/A-18C[N]), VAQ 140 (EA-6B), VAW 121 (E-2C NP) and HS 5 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Afghanistan - Operation Enduring Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 82 close-air-support missions
  • In Qalat (Google Maps), USAF B-1Bs and U.S. Navy F/A-18C[N]s (VFA 83 or 131) and F/A-18Fs (VFA 103) intervened when an Afghan and coalition convoy vehicle was struck by an IED and anti-Afghan forces began shooting. Using GBU-38s and -12s, the aircraft hit enemy fighting positions surrounding the convoy's position and destroyed damaged coalition equipment to keep it from falling into enemy hands. A USAF F-15E and an A-10 also conducted shows of force over positions where enemy forces were located in order to suppress their fire.
  • A USAF F-15E, U.S. Navy F/A-18E (VFA 143) and RAF GR-9 conducted shows of force in Bagram (Google Maps) and Sangin (Google Maps) in order to deter enemy attacks after ground forces spotted enemy personnel preparing to launch attacks in both areas. The presence of aircraft prevented any ground engagement from taking place, preserving the peace and allowing Afghan and coalition security and reconstruction operations to go ahead without enemy interference.

  • 23 USAF ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. In addition, 4 U.S. Navy and coalition aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

    An aircraft carrier's flight deck certification is a two-part certification that ensures the crew can safely and effectively conduct independent flight operations.

    Bush safely completed 695 launches and landings with CVW 1 and VX 23 May 18-29.

    Wasp had conducted supports to the redeployment of U.S. Marine Corps assets in USEUCOM AOR.

  • Bali, Indonesia (May 26, 2009) - USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) arrived May 26 morning to anchor off the coast of Bali, Indonesia for a scheduled port visit.

    Chung-Hoon has deployed in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility since leaving Pearl Harbor Jan. '09.

    * At first, the destroyer was part of Boxer ESG. However, Boxer ESG was renamed Boxer ARG/13th MEU and separated combatant ships.
