U.S. Navy: Bataan Amphibious Ready Group Deploys in Support of Maritime Strategy

Air-operations - U.S. Navy air-operations as part of Coalition Airpower

CVW 14 that consists of VFA 115 (F/A-18E), VFA 22 (F/A-18F), VFA 25, VFA 113 (F/A-18C[N]), VAW 113 (E-2C NP), VAQ 139 (EA-6B), VRC 30 Det. 1 (C-2A) and HS 4 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Afghanistan - Operation Enduring Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 81 close-air-support missions
  • There were F/A-18Fs (VFA 22) at Now Zad (Google Maps) providing armed overwatch for friendly forces taking enemy fire from sniper positions. The positions were observed and confirmed. The F/A-18s successfully targeted the positions with precision guided munitions that destroyed the targets. The enemy fire ceased. A show of force was conducted to ensure enemy fire did not start again.
  • Shinkay (Google Maps) saw F/A-18Es (VFA 115) overhead providing overwatch for friendly ground forces. When a Stryker convoy started taking enemy small arms fire a request for a show of force was made. The F/A-18E aircraft conducted a successful show of force releasing numerous flares, stopping the enemy small arms fire.
  • The Navy had F/A-18C[N]s (VFA 25 or 113) in the vicinity of Farah (Google Maps) flying overwatch for friendly ground forces and Coalition forces. The friendly ground forces were conducting a survey when they reported receiving enemy small arms fire. A show of force was successfully conducted with flares expended causing the enemy fire to cease.
Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • 30 USAF, U.S. Navy and Coalition ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. In addition, 2 U.S. Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.
Iraq - Operation Iraqi Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 24 close-air-support missions

Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • 27 USAF and U.S. Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. In addition, 2 USAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.
