U.S. Navy: Bataan Amphibious Ready Group Deploys in Support of Maritime Strategy

Air-operations - U.S. Navy air-operations as part of Coalition Airpower

CVW 14 that consists of VFA 115 (F/A-18E), VFA 22 (F/A-18F), VFA 25, VFA 113 (F/A-18C[N]), VAW 113 (E-2C NP), VAQ 139 (EA-6B), VRC 30 Det. 1 (C-2A) and HS 4 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Afghanistan - Operation Enduring Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 84 close-air-support missions
  • There were F/A-18Es (VFA 115) over Shindand (Google Maps) providing overwatch when anti-coalition forces attacked a coalition convoy. Several shows of force were conducted to deter enemy aggression and the shows of force were deemed successful as the enemy fire ceased.
  • Precision-guided munitions launched by F/A-18Fs (VFA 22) were used to destroy an enemy position near Soltani (Google Maps). The munitions made a direct hit on the position and were declared successful.
Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • 30 USAF, U.S. Navy and coalition ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. In addition, 2 U.S. Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.
Iraq - Operation Iraqi Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 26 close-air-support missions
  • No description on U.S. Navy air-operations.
Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • 28 USAF and U.S. Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. In addition, 2 USAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

U.S. DoD: DoD Identifies Navy Casualty
  • Helmand province, Afghanistan (Sep. 3, 2009) - A U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer 3rd class died in Helmand province, Afghanistan Sep. 3 due to struck by an improvised explosive device while combat operations.

    PO3 was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Battalion for supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
