U.S. Navy: Bataan Amphibious Ready Group Deploys in Support of Maritime Strategy

Air-operations - U.S. Navy air-operations as part of Coalition Airpower

CVW 14 that consists of VFA 115 (F/A-18E), VFA 22 (F/A-18F), VFA 25, VFA 113 (F/A-18C[N]), VAW 113 (E-2C NP), VAQ 139 (EA-6B), VRC 30 Det. 1 (C-2A) and HS 4 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom.

USAF: Sept. 1 airpower summary: A-10s suppress enemey position
Afghanistan - Operation Enduring Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 83 close-air-support missions
  • Chahar Bagh (Google Maps) saw F/A-18C[N]s (VFA 25 or 113) provide overwatch for friendly forces. A friendly forces' convoy reported receiving small arms fire from anti-Coalition forces in a treeline position and requested air power to deter enemy action. The aircraft made several strafing runs on the enemy position and the strafing runs were successful in their missions.
Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • 31 USAF, U.S. Navy and Coalition ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan.
Iraq - Operation Iraqi Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 28 close-air-support missions
  • No description on U.S. Navy air-operations.
Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • 26 USAF and U.S. Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. In addition, 2 USAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

JMSDF maritime patrols summary in the Gulf of Aden for Aug.
Japan MoD: 海賊対処のために派遣されたP-3C哨戒機の活動状況について
  • Tokyo, Japan (Sep. 1, 2009) - Japan Ministry of Defense reported a Maritime Self Defense Force (MSDF) antipiracy air patrols summary for Aug. in the Gulf of Aden. Currently, two P-3Cs assigned to Fleet Air Wing 4 and other MSDF, GSDF units are conducting an antipiracy effort as joint task squadron.
  • FAW 4 flew 22 patrols from Djibouti airport, marked almost 170 flight hours, observed almost 1,500 merchant vessels and provided nearly 120 information for MSDF Escort Div. 2 and friendly navies.
  • Aug. 14, a P-3C searched a pirate that involved a piracy on that day in response to friendly navy`s information. Afterward the aircraft reported there`s not the pirate in the area.
  • Aug. 16, a P-3C conducted a search mission in response to piracy information from related organizations and then confirmed there`s not the pirate in the area.
  • Aug. 19, While a routine mission, a P-3C observed a suspicious boat began to approach a near tanker. In response to information from the aircraft, a VBSS team of German frigate assigned to EUNAVFOR boarded the boat then released after seizing small arms.
  • Aug. 22, a P-3C observed a suspicious boat which equipped with a ladder during a routine mission. Afterward EUNAVFOR rushed to the scene, a heli aboard HNLMS Evertsen (F805) deterred the boat from retreating. In addition, the VBSS team aboard HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen (F310) boarded the boat and released after seizing the ladder and weapons.

  • Tokyo, Japan (Sep. 1, 2009) - Japan Ministry of Defense requested to build the larger multipurpose helicopter destroyer/helicopter carrier than Hyuga class in next budget bill.

Editor`s note

Editor often suffered sloppy descriptions of "Status of the Navy". Especially, "Reserves currently mobilized". So, that may be refreshed and corrected based on the newest U.S. DoD`s information at time of posting.
