  • Tokyo, Japan (Aug. 25, 2009) - Joint Staff announces Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) Fleet Air Wing (FAW) 5 and other units including GSDF personnel will deploy to Djibouti Oct. for an antipiracy operation in the Gulf of Aden.

    Currently, FAW 4 has conducted the operation with other units since Jun.

  • U.S. 5th Fleet AOR (Aug. 25, 2009) - USS Bataan (LHD 5) as flagship of Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) is conducting maritime security operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) on a scheduled deployment.

    * Bataan ARG consists of Bataan, USS Ponce (LPD 15) and USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43).

U.S. Navy: Keel Laid for Future USNS Washington Chambers
  • San Diego, Calif. (Aug. 25, 2009) - The keel for the 11th Lewis and Clark class ship, future USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11) was laid during a ceremony at the General Dynamics-NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, Calif. Aug. 25.

    Washington Chambers is expected to join the Navy on the first quarter of 2011.

Memo

Japan Gov`t extends a deployment period on United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) for another six months until next Mar. Currently, six JSDF personnel have conducted a six month deployment to UNMIN since last Mar.
