Air-operations - U.S. Navy air-operations as part of Coalition Airpower

CVW 14 that consists of VFA 115 (F/A-18E), VFA 22 (F/A-18F), VFA 25, VFA 113 (F/A-18C[N]), VAW 113 (E-2C NP), VAQ 139 (EA-6B), VRC 30 Det. 1 (C-2A) and HS 4 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Coalition Airpower conducted 83 close-air-support missions
  • Near Ghazni (Google Maps), F/A-18Es (VFA 115) were providing armed overwatch when friendly forces requested that they provide intervention against enemy forces. Friendly forces were being hit with mortar and small-arms fire. The aircraft were successful in stopping the enemy action with shows of force.

Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • 27 USAF ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. In addition, 2 U.S. Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

  • Busan, Republic of Korea (Aug. 14, 2009) - USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) pulls into Busan, Republic of Korea (RoK) for the joint military exercise Ulchi Freedom Guardian (UFG) 2009. UFG is a combined/joint computer simulation driven exercise conducted annually demonstrating the interoperability capabilities between RoK and U.S. 7th fleet.

    * Blue Ridge completed sea trials Jul. 30 following a SRA in Yokosuka, Japan for its fall deployment.

  • Norfolk, Va. (Aug. 14, 2009) - USS Mitscher (DDG 57) returned its homeport at Norfolk, Va., Aug. 14 after a completing a seven month Taurus 09 deployment as part of Royal Navy amphibious task group.
