USS Nimitz to conduct its WestPac deployment

  • Pacific Ocean (Aug. 11, 2009) - USS Nimitz (CVN 68) as flagship of its CSG conducted flight operations, surface operations and an undersea warfare exercise off Hawaiian islands Aug. 11. Nimitz CSG is on a scheduled WestPac deployment.

    * Recently, USS Chosin (CG 65) joined Nimitz CSG after leaving its homeport Pearl harbor.

  • Manila, Philippines (Aug. 11, 2009) - USS George Washington (CVN 73) arrives in Manila, Philippines on Aug. 11 for a scheduled port visit. George Washington is deployed supporting security and stability in the Western Pacific ocean.

    * GW conducted an UNREP with USNS Pecos (T-AO 197) Aug. 9.
    * USS Cowpens (CG 63), USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) are also anchored in Manila Bay.
