  • Tokyo, Japan (Aug. 6, 2009) - Joint Staff announces Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) 1st antipiracy maritime force that consists of JS Samidare (DD 106) and JS Sazanami (DD 113), JCG officers and other units is scheduled to return MSDF Kure Base Aug. 16 after completing a four month antipiracy operation in the Gulf of Aden.

    During the operation, two ships have achieved 41 escorts missions for 121 Japan linked vessels and helped several vessels from suspected pirates' threats.
