CVW 14 that consists of VFA 115 (F/A-18E), VFA 22 (F/A-18F), VFA 25, VFA 113 (F/A-18C[N]), VAW 113 (E-2C NP), VAQ 139 (EA-6B), VRC 30 Det. 1 (C-2A) and HS 4 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom.

JS Ssamidare, JS Sazanami to return after an antipiracy operation

  • Tokyo, Japan (Aug. 6, 2009) - Joint Staff announces Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) 1st antipiracy maritime force that consists of JS Samidare (DD 106) and JS Sazanami (DD 113), JCG officers and other units is scheduled to return MSDF Kure Base Aug. 16 after completing a four month antipiracy operation in the Gulf of Aden.

    During the operation, two ships have achieved 41 escorts missions for 121 Japan linked vessels and helped several vessels from suspected pirates' threats.

  • Singapore (Aug. 6, 2009) - USS George Washington (CVN 73) departs from Singapore after a five day scheduled port visit to Singapore during its first summer deployment from Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan.
