Air-operations - U.S. Navy air-operations as part of Coalition Airpower

CVW 14 that consists of VFA 115 (F/A-18E), VFA 22 (F/A-18F), VFA 25, VFA 113 (F/A-18C[N]), VAW 113 (E-2C NP), VAQ 139 (EA-6B), VRC 30 Det. 1 (C-2A) and HS 4 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Coalition Airpower conducted 87 close-air-support missions
  • F/A-18C[N]s (VFA 25 or 113) near the town of Skinkay (Shinkay?/Google Maps) provided a show of force for a coalition force's patrol to deter enemy small-arms fire. The aircraft then continued to provide armed overwatch.
  • In Qalat (Google Maps), F/A-18Cs (VFA 25 or 113) performed a show of force for a coalition force's patrol to deter enemy rocket fire. This stopped the rocket fire and the aircraft then continued to provide armed overwatch.
  • No description on U.S. Navy air-operations.
Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • 22 USAF ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. In addition, 2 USAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

  • Tokyo, Japan (Aug. 4, 2009) - JMSDF announced a 2nd Hyuga class Helicopter Destroyer is scheduled to be launched and named at Yokohama shipyard, IHI Marine United Inc. Aug. 21. The destroyer will join the fleet Mar. `11.

2nd AMF successfully repelled the suspicious boat
Japan MoD: ソマリア・アデン湾沖における小型船舶への対処について
  • Gulf of Aden (Aug. 4, 2009) - JS Harusame (DD 102) as part of Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) 2nd antipiracy maritime force observed a suspicious boat 18:23, Aug. 4/local time during a 45th escort mission in the Gulf of Aden.

    Harusame and two helis kept warning and surveillances until the boat retreated. And then the escort mission successfully ended without any interference.

    The destroyer and JS Amagiri (DD 152) assigned to Escort Div. 2 have continued an antipiracy operation in the Gulf of Aden as 2nd AMF since last month.
USS Paul Hamilton departs Hong Kong
C7F, U.S. Navy: USS Paul Hamilton departs Hong Kong
  • Hong Kong (Aug. 4, 2009) - USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60) departed Hong Kong after a four-day port visit. During its stay, the crew participated in a variety of community relations events.

    Paul Hamilton is on a seven-month deployment to the Western Pacific.
