Air-operations - U.S. Navy air-operations as part of Coalition Airpower

CVW 14 that consists of VFA 115 (F/A-18E), VFA 22 (F/A-18F), VFA 25, VFA 113 (F/A-18C[N]), VAW 113 (E-2C NP), VAQ 139 (EA-6B), VRC 30 Det. 1 (C-2A) and HS 4 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom.

USAF: July 20 airpower summary: C-130s transport troops, cargo
Afghanistan - Operation Enduring Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 66 close-air-support missions
  • Near Qalat (Google Maps), U.S. Navy F/A-18E and Fs (VFA 115 and 22) and USAF B-1Bs performed armed overwatch on friendly forces. There, they conducted shows of force and expended flares. Navy aircraft strafed an enemy position after coalition forces were hit with small-arms fire. Coalition aircraft also dropped GBU-38's on the enemy position, destroying an enemy arms cache. Enemy activity ceased upon completion of the strafing and bomb runs.

USAF: Airpower Summary for July 18
Afghanistan - Operation Enduring Freedom
Coalition Airpower conducted 70 close-air-support missions
  • At Sangin (Google Maps), F/A-18Fs (VFA 22) rolled in to provide cover for coalition forces taking small arms fire. The show of force eliminated the threat to coalition forces.
  • F/A-18Es (VFA 115) at Lashkar Gah (Google Maps) rolled in to provide cover for a friendly forces convoy taking RPG and small arms fire. During this skirmish, there were shows of force and numerous flares expended causing the enemy to stop the attack on the convoy.
  • F/A-18C[N]s (VFA 25 or 113) demonstrated shows of force during the day near Tarin Kowt (Google Maps) on anti-coalition forces that had been firing rockets on Coalition and friendly forces. Enemy forces ceased fire after several flares were expended. Armed overwatch was provided for several more hours.

Achievements of JMSDF escort missions in the Gulf of Aden
Japan MoD: 護衛実績
  • Gulf of Aden (Jul. 13-19, 2009) - During Jul. 13-19, the JMSDF antipiracy maritime force has completed following escort missions in the Gulf of Aden.

    38th escort mission toward east for 3 vessels Jul. 12-14.
    39th escort mission toward west for 2 vessels Jul. 14-16.

    So far, the maritime force which consists of JS Samidare (DD 106), JS Sazanami (DD 113), four helis, SBU and JCG officers has achieved 39 escort missions for 117 Japan linked commercial vessels in all.

    In addition, the relief force that consist of JS Harusame (DD 102), JS Amagiri (DD 152) and other units will arrive on the scene soon.
Achievements of JMSDF air patrol missions in the Gulf of Aden
Japan MoD: 派遣海賊対処航空隊所属P-3Cの飛行実績について
  • Gulf of Aden (Jul. 13-19, 2009) - During Jul. 13-19, the JMSDF antipiracy air Squadron based in Djibouti flew 6 patrol missions for supports the antipiracy maritime force and coaliton navies in the Gulf of Aden.

    The antipiracy SQ. equipped with two P-3C aircraft and has completed 22 patrol missions, almost 170 flight hours, observed almost 1,500 merchant vessels and provided almost 110 information since Jun. 11.
