Air-operations - U.S. Navy air-operations as part of Coalition Airpower

Jul. 6, Reagan CSG took over the duty in U.S. 5th Fleet AOR from Eisenhower CSG.

CVW 14 that consists of VFA-115 (F/A-18E), VFA 22 (F/A-18F), VFA-25, VFA-113 (F/A-18C[N]), VAW 113 (E-2C NP), VAQ 139 (EA-6B), VRC 30 Det. 1 (C-2A) and HS 4 (SH-60F, HH-60H) is conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom since Jul. 6.

CVW 7 that consists of VFA 143 (F/A-18E), VFA 103 (F/A-18F), VFA 83, VFA 131 (F/A-18C[N]), VAQ 140 (EA-6B), VAW 121 (E-2C NP) and HS 5 (SH-60F, HH-60H) was conducting air-supports for Operation Enduring Freedom since Jul. 5.

  • After a friendly convoy started taking small-arms fire near Lowkhi, an F/A-18C[N] (VFA 25 or 113) carried out shows of force over suspected enemy positions. Ground personnel reported that the shooting stopped following the demonstration of air power.

  • Northern Afghanistan (Jul. 6, 2009) - The U.S. Department of Defense announced the death of Petty Officer second who was assigned as an individual augmentee to Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan (CSTC-A).

    PO2 died Jul. 6 due to an IED attack on his convoy in northern Afghanistan.

  • Gulf of Aden (Jun. 29-Jul. 5, 2009) - During Jun. 29-Jul. 5, the JMSDF antipiracy maritime force achieved following escort missions in the Gulf of Aden.

    32nd escort mission toward east for 3 vessels Jun. 27-29.
    33rd escort mission toward west for 5 vessels Jun. 29-Jul. 1.
    34th escort mission toward east for 3 vessels Jul. 1-3.
    35th escort mission toward west for a vessels Jul. 3-5.

    So far, the maritime force which consists of JS Samidare (DD 106), JS Sazanami (DD 113), four helis, SBU and JCG officers has achieved 35 escort missions for 105 Japan linked commercial vessels in all. Samidare and Sazanami are two of four destroyers assigned to Escort Division 8.

  • Gulf of Aden (Jun. 29-Jul. 5, 2009) - During Jun. 29-Jul. 5, the JMSDF antipiracy air Squadron based in Djibouti flew 3 patrol missions for supports the antipiracy maritime force and coaliton navies in the Gulf of Aden.

    The antipiracy SQ. equipped with two P-3C aircraft and has completed 12 patrol missions in all since Jun. 11.

Memo

Jul. 6, JS Harusame (DD 102), JS Amagiri (DD 154) and other units depart to the Gulf of Aden as a relief unit of the antipiracy operation.
