  • Tokyo, Japan (Sep. 30, 2008) - Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) announced JMSDF Takanami class destroyer JS Suzunami (DD 114), JMSDF Mashu class Oiler JS Mashu (AOE 425) are scheduled to participate in Republic of Korea Navy International Fleet Review off Busan, Korea. The ships will depart Oct. 4.

    While deployed to the eastern Pacific, Ford, along with USS Jarrett (FFG 33) and USS Tortuga (LSD 46) participated in Combined Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2008, Southeast Asia Cooperation Against Terrrorism (SEACAT).

  • Somalia coast (Sep. 28, 2008) - U.S. 5th Fleet has monitored Motor Vessel Faina, the Belize-flagged cargo ship, which was captured Sept. 25.

    USS Howard (DDG 83) is on station and is in visual range of MV Faina, which is anchored off the Somalia coast near the harbor city of Hobyo.

    Howard is part of the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, which is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations to conduct Maritime Security Operations (MSO).

    * USS Vella Gulf (CG 72) is monitoring the Faina as of Sep. 29.
    * According to Navy Times, MV Faina is carrying 33 Russian T-72 tanks, rifles and ammunition that the U.S. fears may fall into the hands of Islamic insurgents fighting the Somali government.

* B-2, Suppose USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20) ended delivery missions by Sep. 26., because the 1936 Montreux Convention allows foreign vessels to stay in the Black Sea for only 21 days. Mt. Whitney arrived in Poti, Republic of Georgia on Sep. 5 following entered Turkish straits.

USSOUTHCOM: Continuing Promise 2008
  • Haiti (Sep. 26, 2008) - USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) departed Haiti Sept. 26 after completed a 19-day disaster relief mission in the storm-ravaged Caribbean nation.

    Kearsarge will remain in the region through November and will continue her humanitarian assistance mission "Continuing Promise 2008" during scheduled visits to the Dominican Republic, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago.

このブログと一緒で公式発表だけを元に記事を書いてる、それは良いがオリジナルなんか何もない。
ネットで即日手に入る情報をそのまま(或いは劣化したソレを)見せられても読む気は失せる。
なにも足さないでなにか引いたら意味ないじゃん、この雑誌に紙代以上の価値がないことになる。

171ページにある"米海軍の現有勢力"を見ると9月8日の分が掲載されている。わずか一日分だけを抜粋して何の意味があるのだろう…

だからと言って状況を変えようとも、自分が変えられるとも思わないけどね(笑)

  • Japan, Tokyo (Sep. 22, 2008) - Japan Ministry of Defense announced JMSDF Kongo class Aegis destroyer JS Chokai (DDG 176) is scheduled to flight test of the SM-3 Block IA missile off Kauai Island, Hawaii on Nov. for confirm the ship's Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) capability. Chokai had been upgraded to be 2nd BMD Aegis ship as JMSDF.

  • Haiti (Sep. 21, 2008) - After a two-day stop at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to refuel and obtain supplies, USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) returned to Haiti Sept. 21 to continue its humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HADR) mission.

    Kearsarge has been conducted Continuing Promise 2008 since Aug. 6. But the mission converted into HADR mission by recent hurricanes and tropical storms.

    Cryptologic Technician PO3 died in the bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan. He was assigned to the Navy Information Operations Command Maryland, Fort Meade, Md.

  • Eastern Pacific Ocean (Sep. 20, 2008) - USS De Wert (FFG 45) and the U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a fishing vessel carrying 3.6 Metric Tons of cocaine while patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

    De Wert, homeported in Mayport, Fla., is deployed in Latin America under the operational control of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, conducting counter illicit trafficking operations in support of JIATF-South, U.S. law enforcement and participating nations drug control policy.

U.S. Navy ships depart for Joint warrior exercise
U.S. Navy: Navy Ships Depart for Joint Warrior Exercise
  • U.S. East coast (Sep. 19, 2008) - Ships led by Commander, Destroyer Squadron (COMDESRON) 24 left the U.S. East Coast for Scotland to participate with allied navies in Joint Warrior exercise, a coalition exercise designed and led by the Joint Tactical Exercise Planning Staff (JTEPS) in the United Kingdom.

    Sailors from USS Mitscher (DDG 57), USS Doyle (FFG 39), USS Klakring (FFG 42), USS Hawes (FFG 53) and USNS Leroy Grumman (T-AO 195) will play a prominent role in the exercise intended to improve interoperability between coalition naval forces and prepare participants for upcoming deployments.

    Joint Warrior will begin in early October and is expected to last approximately two weeks. It will involve air, sea and ground assets from participating allied and NATO forces.

  • Rhodes, Greece (Sep. 18, 2008) - USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) had the opportunity to explore a new culture during a port visit in Rhodes, Greece, Sept. 18-22.

    Carter Hall is deployment as part of the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) to the Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet area of responsibilities in support of maritime security operations.

    Iwo Jima ESG consists of Carter Hall, USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), USS San Antonio (LPD 17), USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), USS Ramage (DDG 61), USS Roosevelt (DDG 80), USS Hartford (SSN 768).

  • USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and CVW 14 flies 30 sorties providing support to coalition forces on the ground in Afghanistan.

  • USS George Washington (CVN 73) is underway in the U.S. 7th Fleet AOR, en route to its new home of Yokosuka, Japan. GW will become the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier forward deployed to Japan.

    * Russell departed Laem Chabang, Thailand on Sep. 16.

  • USNS Navajo (T-ATF 169), Deep Submergence Unit and the Chilean submarine SS-21 Simpson conduct the first-ever mating between a Chilean sub and a rescue vehicle during CHILEMAR 08. Two open-hatch mates are conducted at a depth of 492 ft., simulating the rescue of 33 submariners, and transferring nine personnel between the Simpson and the Pressurized Rescue Module Falcon.

  • DESRON 40 continues its deployment in support of Partnership of the Americas 2008, with USS Farragut (DDG-99), USS Kauffman (FFG-59) and Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System Helicopter Squadron 42, Detachment 7.

  • USS New Hampshire (SSN 778) conducts independent training operations and is en route to a port visit at Annapolis, Md. to support Parents’ Weekend at the Naval Academy.

  • Sevastopol, Ukraine (Sep. 17, 2008) - USNS Pathfinder (T-AGS 60) depart Sevastopol, Ukraine following wrapped up Black Sea mission.

    Civilian surveyors from the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office, the ship's crew, Ukrainian sailors, surveyors and historians, a team from the U.S.-based Institute of Exploration and local military and government officials gathered to celebrate the success of their 10-day mission using Pathfinder's oceanographic survey capabilities to find and identify shipwrecks in Ukrainian territorial waters.

    According to the Institute for Exploration's preliminary cruise report, at least 15 shipwrecks were identified during the mission, including German World War II submarine U-18 (uboat.net) and World War I Russian minelayer RUS Prut.

  • Coast of Guatemala (Sept. 13, 2008) - USS McInerney (FFG 8) and U.SCG LEDET 404 intercepted a self-propelled semi-submersible (SPSS) carrying seven tons of cocaine off the coast of Guatemala.

    McInerney embarked LEDET 404 are currently deployed under operational control of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet (NAVSO/4th FLT) conducting counter illicit trafficking operations for Joint Interagency Task Force-South in the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) area of focus.

  • Tokyo, Japan (Sep. 10, 2008) - Japan Ministry of Defense reported that achievements of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) replenishment operations for OEF-MIO on Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean in August 2008. The operations is based on the Replenishment Support Special Measures Law.

    * Currently, the 3rd dispatch unit has conducted the operations since July 24. The unit is comprised of Towada class oiler JS Hamana (AOE 424), Murasame class destroyer JS Yudachi (DD 103).

  • Tokyo, Japan (Sep. 9, 2008) - JMSDF announced that they will dispatch Repairing or Cable Laying ship JS Muroto (ARC 482) to 29th annual cable-laying exercise in Guam. Muroto is scheduled to depart from JMSDF Kure base on Sep. 19.

    Muroto is commanded by CAPT Hiroaki Komatsu, assigned to Oceanographic Command. The ship has the crew of approximately 120.

U.S. Navy: George Washington Crew Hosts Hawaii Dignitaries
  • Coast of Oahu (Sep. 9, 2008) - USS George Washington (CVN 73) hosted Hawaii community leaders and educators Sept. 9, while conducting training operations off the coast of Oahu.

    George Washington departed San Diego Aug. 21 to begin the journey to Yokosuka, Japan, where it will replace USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) as the United States' only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier.

    * According to local paper, GW is scheduled to arrive in Yokosuka, Japan on Sep. 25.

  • Afghanya Valley, Afghanistan (Sep. 9, 2008) - The U.S. Department of Defense announced the death of sailor who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

    Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class (HM3) died Sept. 9 from injuries suffered when the vehicle he was driving hit an improvised explosive device in Afghanya Valley, Afghanistan.

    HM3 was assigned to Combat Service Support Det. 36, Iwakuni, Japan. He was a member of a US Marine embedded Training Team deployed to Afghan Regional Security Integration Command Central.

  • Poti, Republic of Georgia (Sep. 5, 2008) - USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20) arrives in Poti, Republic of Georgia for transporting humanitarian relief supplies in support of "Operation Assured Delivery."

    Mount Whitney will deliver more than 17 tons of aid, including 4,000 blankets donated by the U.S. Agency for International Development, juice, powdered milk and hygiene products.

    Mount Whitney, homeported in Gaeta, Italy has a hybrid crew of U.S. Navy Sailors and civilian mariners.

  • Atlantic Ocean (Sep. 5, 2008) - USS Bataan (LHD 5) completed a four-day hurricane exercise, HURREX 08-002, Sept. 5.

    The exercise was a short-notice 2nd Fleet event which enabled the ship and crew to demonstrate at-sea readiness for disaster response.

  • Tokyo, Japan (Sep. 3, 2008) - Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) announced P-3Cs will visit Edinburgh and Darwin, Australia to promote military exchange between Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Japan Self-Defense Force (JSDF).

    The P-3Cs will participate in Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) exercise too. This year, the PSI exercise is hosted by New Zealand, called Exercise Maru.

  • Norfolk (Sep. 3, 2008) - USS Oklahoma City (SSN 723) departs Naval Station Norfolk will travel to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, N.H., for a scheduled overhaul, marking the beginning of a two-year homeport shift to Portsmouth.
Lincoln departs 5th Fleet AOO
U.S. NAVCENT: USS Abraham Lincoln Departs 5th Fleet
  • U.S. 5th Fleet AOO (Sep. 3, 2008) - USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW 2) departed the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations (AOO) Sept. 3.

    While deployed to the region, Lincoln provided direct support to Operations Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Enduring Freedom (OEF) as well as Maritime Security Operations (MSO).

    Working alongside Coalition partners , Lincoln and CVW 2 successfully flew more than 7,100 sorties in support of Coalition forces and provided a variety of effects, both kinetic and non-kinetic.

    * Reagan CSG has taken over OEF missions on Aug. 28.
USS Ramage is deployed as part of the Iwo Jima ESG

  • Atlantic Ocean (Sep. 3, 2008) - USS Ramage (DDG 61) conducts a replenishment at sea with the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Big Horn (T-AO 198). Ramage is deployed as part of the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group supporting maritime security operations in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.

    * The ship is the first Atlantic-based Arleigh Burke class destroyer to deploy ready for ballistic missile defense.

Mount Whitney is homeported in Gaeta, Italy, where she recently received humanitarian aid supplies destined for the Republic of Georgia. Mount Whitney is transiting to the Black Sea for delivery of the humanitarian assistance cargo to the Republic of Georgia as part of "Operation Assured Delivery".

  • Sevastopol, Ukraine (Sep. 1, 2008) - USCG Dallas (WHEC 716) enters in Sevastopol, Ukraine 1 to participate in previously scheduled theater security cooperation activities with the Ukrainian Navy.

    On Aug. 27, the cutter became the second U.S. military ship to deliver humanitarian aid supplies to Georgia as a part of Operation Assured Delivery, the ongoing U.S. mission to bring relief supplies to the conflict-torn country.

USS Essex departs Tokyo
C7F, U.S. Navy: Essex Departs Tokyo After Successful Port Visit and Exercise
  • Tokyo, Japan (Sep. 1, 2008) - USS Essex (LHD 2) departed Tokyo Sep. 1, after completing the evacuation phase of this year’s Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Kanagawa Prefecture Government disaster response drills.

    During the six-day visit, Sailors assigned to Essex and Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 5, Detachment Western Pacific, responded to simulated natural disasters in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. They also had the opportunity to experience the city of Tokyo, Japan’s largest city, with a population of more than 12 million people.

    Essex will now return to its forward-deployed home of Sasebo, Japan, for a brief stop in preparation for its annual fall patrol.

    * Sep. 1 is the Disaster Prevention Day in Japan.

  • Afghanistan (Aug. 30, 2008) - PO1 died Aug. 30 from injuries sustained while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He was temporarily forward deployed from his assignment at Naval Special Warfare Development Group, Dam Neck, Va.
